What can each role do? (owner, admin, member, viewer)

Fusial uses four roles — owner, admin, member, and viewer — to govern who can do what in your organization. This page lists every action each role can and cannot take, including viewer restrictions that are enforced at the database layer.

Every member of a Fusial organization has exactly one role: owner, admin, member, or viewer. Roles control what you can see, edit, and manage. Viewer restrictions are enforced at the database layer, not just hidden in the UI — a viewer literally cannot write to your organization's data.

When to use each role

Owner. The person ultimately responsible for the organization — billing and deletion both flow through owners. The owner cannot leave the organization and ownership cannot be transferred, so we recommend the founder or company head sign up as the owner.

Admin. Day-to-day administrators who manage members, configure the playbook, set up SLAs and workflows, but don't need billing control. Most legal-ops leads and team managers should be admins.

Member. The default working role. Members do the actual contract work — uploading, reviewing, accepting redlines, exporting. They can't change who else is in the organization.

Viewer. Read-only access. Use this for stakeholders who need to see contract progress but shouldn't change anything: outside counsel observers, finance reviewers, executive sponsors, auditors. Viewers can download the original contract file but cannot trigger an export, comment, or run AI analysis. Viewer is enforced server-side; even with a clever browser, a viewer can't write data.

Changing someone's role

Owners and admins can change roles from the Members page. Open the member's row and select a new role. The change takes effect immediately — on their next page load, the new permissions apply.

Can ownership be transferred?

No. The owner cannot leave the organization, and ownership cannot be reassigned to another member. For this reason, Fusial recommends that the founder or company head sign up as the owner, since the role is permanent for the lifetime of the organization.
